port history

The Ohio River has been a tremendous

asset to Evansville since the city's founding.

The federal government recognized the

city's significance as a transportation and

distribution center in 1856 designating it an

official Port of Entry.  The facility was dedicated

in February of 1931 and at that time was the

largest such structure on the Ohio River.
